Be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire.-Jennifer Lee
My name is Brenda. I’m a 52 year old single hair stylist with no kids. I’ve worked in the beauty industry for more than 25 years. In the intervening years, I went to college. I loved sociology. You all remember that the sociological perspective is about the movement of groups. As much as I loved learning about the perspective, I talked myself out of pursuing it professionally.
My work brought me in contact with many professional women. I watched them and their families travel Everywhere. And then I was bitten by the travel bug! I’ve traveled to most of the East Coast of the US as well as Texas, California and Illinois. I’ve been to Jamaica, the Virgin Island, Puerto Rico and Grand Cayman. In Europe, I’ve been to Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Spain, Italy, France, Portugal, Germany and the Czech Republic. I’ve traveled to Africa twice and visited South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Kenya. I would say that Kenya was my most memorable trip because we traveled all over the country.
What I have learned in my travels is that a sense of wonder is still possible. When I visit someplace new there is a sense of wonder and awe! I’ve learned to see the routine things around me here at home with the same excitement. It’s there waiting to be noticed! To those afraid to leave the Us, I would say: people are people everywhere you go. There are gonna be some unpleasant people but mostly people want to show you their country and are happy to celebrate with you.
